Jeconiah Louis Dreisbach is a PhD candidate in Humanities and Communication at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, specializing in critical sociolinguistics. He is part of the interdisciplinary research group Language, Culture and Identity in the Global Age (IdentiCat) and does research on the convergences of multilingualism, migration, and intercultural contact. In the Philippines, he is a lecturer at the Philippine Studies program of De La Salle University teaching courses in Philippine language, culture, and media studies. Concurrently, he serves as a managing editor for Studies in Ethnicity and Nationalism, associate editor for Southeast Asian Media Studies, and editor for the LLT Journal: A Journal on Language Teaching. Moreover, he is a member of the International Association of Applied Linguistics’ Research Network on Social and Affective Factors in Home Language Maintenance and Development (HOLM-ReN). Aside from sociolinguistics, Jecon is also interested in the linguistic and cultural aspects of public health studies, Filipino philosophy, linguistic anthropology, intercultural communication, translation studies, popular culture, international relations theory, and Southeast Asian Studies. His most recent published works, both in English and Filipino, can be found in Studies in English Language and Education, Journal of Public Health, the Asia Pacific Journal of Public Health, Asian Politics & Policy, Dalumat, Jati – Journal of Southeast Asian Studies, and the Malaysian Journal of International Relations, among others.
